The fourth album in the Bearded Children’s output is a special event. The recording of the album was preceded by a casting, in which 12,000 children from the Lublin region took part. The instruments are played by outstanding musicians – Wojciech Waglewski (guitar), Marcin Pospieszalski (double bass, bass guitar), Piotr “Stopa” Żyżelewicz (drums), Cezary Paciorek (accordion) and Hungarian Róca Szabolcs (eight-stringed bagpipe). But most importantly, the album is the result of a collaboration between musicians and scientists – the first event of its kind in the history of Polish phonography.

Description

Na Dunaj kolędy ze wschodu – 2008

The CD contains carols and carol songs excavated from the Ethnolinguistic Archive of the Maria Curie-Skłodowska University – there are both authentic performances of these carols (sung, among others, by residents of Lublin Region born in the 19th century!) and contemporary arrangements of them, performed by children (also residents of Lublin Region, but the youngest of their generation) under the direction of Joszek Broda. Translated with DeepL.com (free version)

In the words of Professor Jerzy Bartmiński, an outstanding linguist and folklorist, thanks to whom it was possible to publish the album: “Thus, it is both a document of traditional regional singing and a record of new performances, and as a whole, an attempt to revive a certain part of the cultural heritage of the Lublin region. Young performers return to the traditions of their small homelands and together try to save from oblivion a musical and song repertoire that is rare in the whole of Poland, but extremely valuable”.

The album had its radio premiere during a promotional concert in Studio im. Lutosławski in Warsaw – the concert was broadcast live on Polish Radio 2.
